The Red Cross has been operating in Finland for over 140 years. We are ready to help with our volunteers when we receive a request for help from the authorities in the event of an accident or disaster. In 2021, we supported the authorities in non-coronavirus tasks over 80 times.
Assistance was provided, for example, in searching for missing persons, as material support in connection with fires, and as emotional support in disasters and accidents. Help from volunteers trained in emotional support was needed weekly to support loved ones who had suffered a sudden death.
In 2021, our relief efforts continued to focus on corona tasks, in which we encountered
thousands of Southwest Finns. The help of Red Cross volunteers was needed especially in guidance and advice on corona vaccinations in several municipalities in Southwest Finland. In addition, the volunteers supported the authorities, for example, in multilingual corona information.
