Instruments for tartar removal
Different mouth openers
Kruuse mouth openers are indispensable tools for small animal veterinarians in oral cavity examinations, dental treatments and surgeries, and in inserting catheters and intubation tubes. Be careful not to open the patient's mouth too far.
Kruuse's rubber mouth opener is anatomically designed for the mouths of dogs and cats.
The Minnesota spreader is a multi-purpose device. It is used to protect tissues and the user during drilling. Each end has its own function: One holds the cheek back, while the other holds the tongue down.
The lip lifter is designed to keep the lip out of the way. This allows better access to the oral cavity during dental treatment. The tip of the instrument is coated with plastic, this prevents damage to the lips. The lip lifter is suitable for animals of all sizes, as it locks into different positions.
Probe-gingival pocket meter, tartar removal forceps, tartar removal sickle, curette
The probe pocket gauge is a combination instrument for diagnosing tartar, cavities and tooth surface abnormalities and measuring the depth of gingival pockets. The scale on the pocket gauge shows the depth/dimension of the gingival pocket in millimeters. The scale is engraved to prevent fading during autoclaving. The ball head does not damage the gingival tissue or the pocket floor.
The Shepherd hook on the other end is useful for identifying and examining dental lesions above and below the gum line.
The tartar removal pliers have a curved nose that allows for easy removal of heavy tartar from the surface of the teeth.
Scaling sickles are used to remove heavy supragingival (above the gum line) tartar, and universal curettes are used to remove minor tartar. Universal curettes can also be used subgingivally (below the gum line).
Regional finishing curettes are used to remove tartar. These curettes have only one cutting edge, so tartar removal below the gum line can be done safely.
Scaling instrument sharpening machine
The RondoPlus sharpening machine LM-RondoPlus™ is suitable for use with all hand instruments that need to be sharpened. Thanks to its simple operating method, it is easy to learn how to use the device in just a few moments.
The ceramic sharpening stone is mounted in a housing that rotates 360°. The instrument to be sharpened is placed on the support plate next to the sharpening stone. The lower support position is intended for periodontal instruments, while the upper position is suitable for preparation instruments. The hand holding the instrument remains stationary - sharpening is done by rotating the housing.
The LM-RondoPlus™ uses the same basic method regardless of whether the instruments to be sharpened are periodontal or fabrication instruments, or whether the cutting edge is curved or straight.
Dental scaling supplies
The Genesis oscillating 90 degree polishing heads heat up less, create less mess than regular polishing heads, cause less gum irritation, and are quieter than regular disposable polishing heads. They are disposable and the AAHA recommends using a new tip and cup for each patient.
Vetman's other supplies for tartar removal include polishing paste, polishing cups and non-woven gauze pads.
