Probe pocket meters

The probe pocket meter is a combination instrument for diagnosing tartar, cavities, and tooth surface abnormalities, as well as measuring the depth of gingival pockets, i.e. for a comprehensive periodontal examination of cats and dogs.

The scales on LM-Instruments' pocket gauges show the depth/dimension of the pocket in millimeters in 2 or 3 mm increments, while the Kruusen equivalent has engraved measurement markings (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 mm). The LM-Instruments' ball head (ø 0.5 mm) and the Kruusen's blunt head do not damage the gum tissue or the bottom of the pocket.

The Shepherd hook probe at one end of the instrument is useful for identifying and examining supra- and subgingival dental lesions. The tip of the probe is blunt, so it does not damage the tooth surface.

Dental scaling hand instruments

Scaling pliers

The tartar removal pliers have a curved nose that allows for easy removal of heavy tartar from the surface of the teeth.

Tartar sickles

Dental scalers are used to remove excess supragingival (above the gum line) and interdental calculus. The LM-Instruments dental scaler has a triangular blade cross-section, its working surface is perpendicular to the lower shaft and has two cutting edges and a sharp tip. Kruusen dental scaler has a curved blade, two cutting edges and a sharp tip. Kruusen Jaquette dental scaler is used on flatter surfaces of teeth, i.e. for cleaning the facial and lingual surfaces of large teeth and interdental spaces. The instrument has a straight blade, two cutting edges and a sharp tip.

Sickle instrumentation

Remove tartar by placing the tip third of the cutting edge of the sickle against the tooth. Tilt the instrument towards the tooth so that the angle between the tooth and the blade is 70-80°. Apply lateral force to the instrument and move the sickle in vertical, diagonal or horizontal strokes. Use short strokes of 2-3 mm to maintain control of the instrument.

Curettes

Universal curettes are used for moderate tartar removal. They can also be used subgingivally (below the gum line). The universal curette has a working part perpendicular to the lower shaft, two cutting edges and a round tip.

LM-ErgoVet area-specific finishing curettes are used to remove all types of tartar. These curettes have only one cutting edge, so tartar removal below the gum line can be done safely.

Universal curette instrumentation

Remove tartar by placing one of the cutting edges of the universal curette against the tooth surface. Tilt the instrument towards the tooth so that an angle of 70–80° is maintained between the tooth and the blade. Apply lateral force to the instrument and move the curette in vertical, diagonal or horizontal strokes. Both cutting edges of the same curette can be used by tilting the instrument in either direction
